I’m thankful for the kind review of Woven by Love published in the Australian Presbyterian magazine. Lyn Barnes has captured the heart of the story with sensitivity, noticing the quiet threads of family, food, and faith that shape the book. I’m humbled to share her words here.

"Review of Angel Then Le, Woven by Love, A Memoir, Australia, printed and published through Amazon KDP, 2025.

Angel Tien Le presents a gentle memoir of her early life in a small Vietnamese village through to her young adult life in Australia. The author sketches the life of her mother quietly and humbly working to provide for her daughter in all aspects of her life. The day-to-day tale is woven together with the recurring theme of food which acts as a balm. When “words were too heavy”, her mother, Le, creates various dishes as quiet offerings of love.

The wise love of Le is infused into Angel’s memoirs, and is captured in each event – in times of joy when Angel excels at her studies, or times of disappointment and hardship when Angel fails to be recognised for her achievements.

Angel’s mother  humbly guides her daughter with a mother’s carefully chosen words, thoughtful actions, and secure routines. Towards the end of the memoir, the road to finding the loving thread of God’s love comes into view as Angel encounters her future husband. “And slowly, her heart turned – not away from her past, but towards something that could be held.” Her faith journey is sketchy, yet peaceful, as she begins life in Australia.

The author has explored the quiet movement of the narrative by writing in short chapters, with specific headings to each chapter and double spaced writing. Also included are questions at the memoir’s end to encourage the reader to reflect on the themes of this journey. At the end of the book, Angel adds a bonus, as she sets out the recipes recorded throughout the memoir.

Overall, the book weaves together a serene patchwork of a mother’s love and a child’s journey, leading to the God of Love.

What Readers Say

Judy Bell

"It (Woven by Love) made me laugh

It made me cry

It made me remember things from my childhood that had dimmed in my memory

It made me remember things that made me stronger  and the things that brought me pain, that God helped me to overcome with forgiveness."

Paul Tai Huynh

Pastor, PhD in Christian Counseling

“Woven by Love is more than a memoir — it’s a testimony of faith, grace, and the quiet power of a mother’s love. Angel writes with gentleness and spiritual clarity. Her story will speak deeply to hearts that have endured much.”

Andrew Le

MBBS (UNSW),

author's beloved husband

"When I read the chapter ‘The Strongest Silence,’ my heart skipped a beat — no, actually quite a few beats. Angel captured the world through the eyes of a five-year-old girl facing cruelty from her friends — not with bitterness, but with a tender strength that is truly remarkable. The way little Tien hides her wounds to protect her mother reveals a love so quiet, yet so powerful. Writing from a child’s point of view is incredibly difficult, but Angel did it with rare beauty and restraint. It left me wondering — not only as her husband, but as a reader — how many hearts this book will touch."

Jackie S.

PhD in Optometry

“Angel writes so beautifully and I was hooked from the moment I read the first page. I tried not to read too fast, as every page was so moving and touched my heart. Her faith, strength and determination are an encouragement to us all.”
